About Rose Island

It is referred to as Sir Hugh Rose Island and also as Little Neil Island. This uninhabited island is located in South Andaman District and is 40 km. away from Port Blair. It has derived this name after Hugh Rose, the then Field Marshal. There is a lighthouse constructed on a hillock commissioned on 14th April, 1969. This island is part of Ritchie’s Archipelago, located about 2 miles from Neil Island and also referred to as ‘Little’ Neil or ‘Chhota Neil’. Rose Island has been recently renamed as Netaji Dweep. It is indeed a beautiful destination for tourists to visit. You can come across ruins of old buildings constructed by the British. There are also present century old trees.
